Ever heard of Southern Wörthersee? Say it slowly now: Wör-ther-see. It might have a slightly confusing name, but the event itself is nothing short of spectacular. It’s basically a place where auto enthusiasts and their cars are brought together in a truly authentic European atmosphere, tying back to the Wörthersee Tour in Reifnitz, Austria.
Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains on the Chattahoochee River, is the Bavarian-themed town of Helen, Georgia. With its striking similarities to the Wörthersee region, it’s a natural location for the stateside tribute to Wörthersee.

Perhaps the most interesting factor of new 2013 Volkswagen models are their extra accessories and interior. No, I’m not talking about grooves and style. I’m talking about convenience, compatibility, comfort, and gadgetry. I’m talking about how driving a VW can suddenly seem like you're operating a James Bond vehicle, only this time, VW has replaced missiles, cloaking devices, and bulletproof windowswith automatic tire pressure monitors, RNS 315 Navigation, keyless entry, Cornering Lights, and Bluetooth® connectivity. In this article, we will briefly go over such features by explaining what they are and how to use them.
Whether you are reading this to research Volkswagen as a brand before or after you purchase, there are some things you should know. Every VW model is different in that they contain different features. A full explanation of every feature on each Volkswagen model is available at my.vw.com . Simply select your vehicle and the website will help you go over each feature individually. Here at Heritage Volkswagen of West Atlanta, we actually go over each interior and exterior feature with you as part of a walk around presentation should you elect to have one.
So, let’s start with the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). You can get your vehicle’s ideal tire pressure by checking the sticker on the driver’s door jamb. Make sure you inflate you’re tires to that specification instead of the number on your tires. The TPMS will alert you when your tire pressure falls below what is specified on the door sticker by turning on the Tire Pressure Warning Light on your instrument panel.
After you check and pump up your low tires, hit the SET button inside your VW’s glove compartment and the TPMS light will go off. Remember, this light can go on and off in colder weather as your tires warm up.
Another cool feature of many 2013 Volkswagen models is the “Cornering Lights” feature that will turn the fog lights of your vehicle on automatically in the direction that you are turning. For instance, if you are turning left, your left fog light will turn on automatically and then turn itself off once you have completed the turn. This gives you increased vision around corners.
Now let’s go over possibly the most important feature -- Bluetooth®. You will first want to make sure your phone is compatible with Volkswagen at www.vw.com/bluetooth. Then start your vehicle and from your phone’s Bluetooth menu select “Search for New Devices”. Then select VW PHONE when it is found. You will then see a six-digit PIN number appear on your phone and you will press “PAIR”. If nothing appears, simply press “PAIR”. If your phone requires a four-digit PIN, simply hit (0000). 2013 Volkswagen Passat SEL
The 2013 Passat SEL has an MSRP (Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price) of $28,925 but has the feel of a luxury car that's twice the price. Don't believe me? Well the only true way to find out is to drive one yourself, but I can think of a few reasons. The 2013 Passat earned an 8.4 out of 10 on KBB.com consumer reviews, an IIHS Top Safety Pick, and is also the reigning Motor Trend car of the year. If that doesn't do it for you, take pride in the fact that your Passat SEL was built in Tennessee, but retains the heart of German engineering.
Safety first. The SEL earned a 9.9/10 safety rating from Kelley Blue Book, and it's easy to see how. Volkswagen's Intelligent Crash Response System cuts off power to the fuel pump, unlocks all doors, and turns on hazard lights immediately during an accident. This system ensures your safety and makes it easier for you to get to safety. Here are some other technologies VW has developed to help avoid accidents: Anti-lock Braking System with Hydraulic Brake Assist to guide you around difficult turns, and Electronic Stability Control are always working with the driver to prevent accidents. These are just a few ways Volkswagen puts your safety first. Now let's take a look at the engine.
Standard in every 2013 SEL is a 6-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic and Sport mode. This makes driving more fun and gives you the feel of a stick shift without the ease of an automatic. The Passat engine is a 2.5L 5-cylinder with 170hp and 177 lbs/ft of torque which gives you the passing power you want when cruising down I 85.
What makes an SEL an SEL? Simple answer: its features. Sunroof, navigation, rearview camera, cruise control, heated front seats, 3-month Sirius Satellite Radio subscription, and the Fender Audio System with 8 speakers and a subwoofer are just some of the features of the SEL's interior. Bluetooth with audio streaming gives you the wireless option for your phone and music too. If you have allergies, the SEL has a Climatronic dual-zone electronic control with pollen filter to give you cleaner, more breathable air as well. The exterior is classy too, and you will most definitely stand out around town. The Volkswagen Passat SEL comes equipped with a chrome window trim, chrome exhaust tip, and chrome grill, halogen headlights, daytime running lights, heated body-color side mirrors with integrated turn signals, 17" Sonoma alloy wheels, and fully galvanized sheet metal.
If you're itching for even more luxury, step up to the Volkswagen SEL Premium package or the V6 Premium package. The Volkswagen SEL Premium package has a starting MSRP $30,425 includes all of the SEL attributes plus: keyless access with push-button start, remote start, leather seating with Dinamica inserts, and halogen reflector lens fog-lights with low-speed corner-illuminating feature to help your vision around turns. The Volkswagen Passat V6 SEL Premium is $33,525 with a 3.6L, 24-valve V6 engine, FSI direct injection, 280hp, and 258 lbs/ft of torque. The Passat SEL V6 includes the features listed above plus navigation, and combines a powerful engine with luxury.
